Book Review: Funny journey to the truth

To Be Perfectly Honest: One Man's Year of Almost Living Truthfully Could Change Your Life. No Lie. by Phil Callaway
Phil Callaway was given the challenge to tell the truth for a whole year and write about it. To my delight he accepted that challenge. This is a funny book is Phil Callaway's journal entries on how he succeded (or failed) in telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. It's funny, often time laugh out loud funny. Often times, it was also thought provoking.
Callaway doesn't just tell the truth when asked, he lives the truth. That's an important distinction that I had to think about. His truth-telling challenge meant to 'live with complete integrity all year' and that's not something I thought about when I started to read this book. Isn't not telling your husband that you go to Starbucks every morning when you're supposed to be on a strict financial diet a form of lying?
Make no mistake, this book made me think and reconsider several of my own habits, but it is a fun book to read. I fell in love with his wife, Ramona, and found myself constantly relating to his dilemnas.
Day 89- I've prayed that same prayer. Many times.
Day 102- I've also had fictional conversations with witty comebacks!
Day 289- Yep. That prayer too.
I could highlight several days that were especially poignant to me, but instead I urge you to read the book and see what parts ring true with you.

I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

Book Review in 10 Sentences or Less

The Girl's Guide to Vampires by Kate MacAlister
My 1st attempt at Katie MacAlister didn't go so well, but so many people sang her praises that I decided to give her another try. I read The Girl's Guide, the first in her Dark Ones series, and well, I'm still not impressed. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. She didn't develop the characters enough to make me care about them. The story line, though typical for a vampire romance, was interesting enough, but the beginning of the book hinted at a steamy triangle that never materialized. In fact, the vampire seemed kind of nerdy and pathetic. I have the next book in the series and I will read it, but I'm not dying to sink my teeth into it-pun intended. Kudos to whomever comes up with the titles, let's just hope her writing improves so that the books are just as witty & entertaining.
